We as individuals have the right to be in control of our diet and health. However, the government and other large organizations are also responsible, not only for regulating health care policies and educating the public, but for conditions related to the general infrastructure pertaining to food, how our food is grown, and it's availability and accessibility, which significantly impact our overall nutrition and health. Mediocre preventative care, inadequate diet, and poor health stick together and the arrangement needs to be broken.

Often an individual is judged and blamed for being overweight. We must combat this stance and show empathy and friendship who are struggling with their weight. This page provides a video focusing on the emotional pain that obese teens go through and how we can help.

Insurance companies have a great deal of control over our health. The multi-billion dollar industry certainly has a goal, but unfortunately, it is not to help care for the American public and get people well again. In writing to the Dallas Morning News, Dennis Baum put it best: “Its [the health insurance industry’s] primary concern is making huge profits. They profit when they deny care, which is the fundamental flaw in our current system." The government needs to take control of these industries and implement a new approach when it comes to health care, focusing more on healing and prevention, and less on profit.
